Closure...

OK my brothers! I'm at a crossroads right now. I've got five weeks of my beautiful break left, right? So despite the fact that the British summer seems to have arrived, I need to play some games. Yes I've had a few games of House Of The Dead III and Sega Rally on the PC, and yes they were good. But when it comes to console gaming, I'm in a bit of a jam...

You see I've got Umbrella Chronicles, Red Steel and No More Heroes where I'm so close to the finish of the game that I can smell it. But can I get there? NO!!! I'll put the game on, play it
and lose. It's an exercise in frustration. For example in No More Heroes, I'm trying to beat the assasin Bad Girl. I play (and this might take an hour) and every time I get my arse kicked. Am I any further in the game? NO!!!

The same could be said of the 'Twin Ivans' in Umbrella Chronicles or the boss 'Tokai' in Red Steel.
My gaming prowess does not seem to let me past these levels.

Onto the 360 then. I bought 'Dead Rising' and 'Viking' in May. I flounder around at the start of these games, but at the end of July, I'm no further on than on the day I bought them. So here's my dilemma...

Now most recently, I had the most glorious time playing 'Sword Of The Beserk: Gut's Rage' on the Dreamcast. I started it in June and finished it in June. It was a great experience, a holistic experience and it felt like I'd used my gaming time well.

At the moment, I'm trying to play 'Jet Set Radio' on the Dreamcast. And guess what? I love the game, (I've since bought Jet Set Radio Future on the Xbox and the Japnese soundtrack to both game on CD.) But when I load up the Dreamcast game, as usual, I've reached an impass...

Do I keep beating my head against a brick wall or do I just seek closure?... There is an absolute plethora of unfinished games I have awaiting me in my house. Let's just reference them for a moment...

Virtual Cosole? Comix Zone, Shinobi III, Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. PS2? Kingdom Hearts, Max Payne. Dreamcast? Head Hunter, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Blue Stinger, HOTD 2. GBA? Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Ecco The Dolphin, Golden Axe. Saturn? Virtua Cop 1 & 2, HOTD 1, Casper.

I've enjoyed completing games recently... Let's take look... 360... Bioshock, Shenmue II, COD4, Area 51. Wii? RE4. Dreamcast? SWOB: GR, RE2 and RE3. PS2 Enter The Matrix, Matrix Path Of Neo. DS? Resident Evil .

Should I just trade my non-starters in and buy another game? Soul Calibur 4 is out in the UK in a matter of days... Or do I just keep all those non-finished titles (like I do with my Dreamcast collection) and wait for the day when I'm up for completing?.... Help me out brothers, I need your sage-like advice!

Damn! You almost gave me a heart attack! When I read "closure" I thought for a moment that you were going to give up on this blog or something...

Anyway, since that's not the case, let's see... About the Wii games, I can't help you since I don't own them, but have you tried reading a guide or something? Sometimes that helps (although it didn't help me beat the final boss in Ninja Gaiden II, now that's a hard game...).

Jet Set Radio on the other hand I know well, and like I've said before, I got stuck at the exact same spot and was never able to beat that part, so, yeah, you might want to move on...

As for Dead Rising and Viking, well, you know my opinion on Viking, but that doesn't mean you're going to like it too, so...I don't know, try giving it another try and play a couple more hours at least until you reach the first large scale battle and see what the game truly has to offer. If by then you're still not impressed get rid of it. Dead Rising on the other hand is really not my cup of tea, and although I've found it fun as a distraction I wouldn't keep it for too long in my collection, but that's your call.

I always give the same answer to this question, but now since you claim to have "lost" the relevant vmu, I suppose my standard response is somewhat irrelevant ;)

So in light of this, I say finish Zelda Ocarina of Time. Use a walkthrough and I bet you could crack it inside 4 days.

ps: Please don't give a countdown of the amount of holiday left each week. It will only depress your readers ;)

No dear Nebacha, I'm not up for closing this blog. Of all my blog endeavours this is my only personal blog an though it's at times boring and at times not updated often enough, I think I'll keep it...

Why dear Sonnyboy! First of all a masive thank you for visiting. It is an extreme compliment for you to be here. You know what? I'm going to keep Viking on Nebacha's advice. I'll keep Red Steel and Umbrella Chronicles, the first because it was my Wii game that I wanted to play first. UC because I am a Resident Evil Obsessive and I own...

RE: Saturn, RE:DS, RE:Gamecube, RE2:Dreamcast, RE3:Dreamcast, RE:CV Dreamcast, RE4:PS2, RE:CV,Gun Survivor PS2, RE:Outbreak FilePS2 RE4:Wii and RE:UC Wii... So I'll keep that...

What I'll trade in will be Dead Rising (360), No More Heroes (Wii) and Sega Superstars Tennis (DS) (it's not that great!)

And I'll trade them in for Soul Calibur 4!

Plus, I'm thinking that I might start to replay Head Hunter on Sonnyboy's advice... I'll have to do it from the start though...

I'm terrible when it comes to hoarding games. Even if they get completed they will be kept.
I personally find that giving a game a break and trying another one (Preferably a different Genre) is a great way of getting pass the wall. The only thing is that some times I leave it to late then forget the basics of the game.

Hey Father,
Have you watched any of the new E3 videos for RE5...?

It's looking pretty intense!

As for games- I'm currently playing MGS4 and Dark Kingdom for the PS3... so no help there. Besides you have beat more games this year than I could ever imagine beating in a year.

For the love of God, beat No More Heroes before you trade it in! I want you to see the "real" ending (make sure you get all the different swords, there are 4 in all I think). It really is awesome! :)

But I want to play SC4 myself, but I don't know when I'll get it.

I take it that you kicked the games arse then Junlee? I've loved and devoured this game... I don't want to give it up, but where do I go?

When a game becomes a chore whaddya gonna do?

Like Resident Evil: Code Veronica and RE: Umbrella Chronicles, I can watch the ending on Youtube and get some cash from those damn games....

Sorry for such a late reply, just saw this! :)

No, I wouldn't say I kicked it's "arse" (lol), there were definitely a couple bosses that had me wanting to pick the TV up and pile drive it into submission. I think you mentioned here, but that little whiny bitch with the bat towards the end...yeah, that hoe had me in fits!

But I definitely think it's worth it in the end, so when you get your wits about you, go in for another try.

But it's ultimately up to you. :)
